Sir Ranulph Fiennes at Campfire 2017

Campfire 2017

When we created Campfire Gin and indeed the Campfire brand, our goal was to engage with those who like their gin and tonic under the stars as much as they do in bars. For us it was a an extension of our own personal experiences that had inspired the creation of Campfire Gin.

Earlier this year a chance conversation led to modern day adventurer Ed Stafford (yep, the guy who walked the length of the amazon), hearing about our Campfire Gin brand. Nothing unusual there save for the fact that Ed was heading up the 3rd annual Campfire event, a fundraising night for the Transglobe Expedition Trust.

Fast forward to 30 June with Kate and I sitting round a roaring campfire in the beautiful surroundings of Home Farm Glamping, Elstree. The assembled crowd of 250 were captivated by tales from guest adventures Olly Hicks, The Coxless Crew, Ness Knight, Laura Bingham, Spike Reid, Pip Stewart, Ed Stafford, and of course, the simply incredible, Sir Ranulph Fiennes. These amazing people have, between them, rowed across oceans, crossed deserts, climbed the highest mountains and navigated the worlds longest rivers.

At the end of all the talks, a toast was raised to the Trust and great expeditions with 250 shots of Campfire Gin held aloft, then it was back to the Campfire Gin bar for more before dodging the rain and dancing to a live band in the flickering light of the fire.

If you even have a fleeting interest in adventure and travel, look into any of the afore mentioned. You may be inspired. The Transglobe Expedition Trust is a charity that helps fund expeditions that have a particular purpose, whether it be to raise awareness of the impact of deforestation and gold mining in the Amazon or the impact that waste from an infrastructure that supports 450 million people living along the River Ganges is having on the worlds oceans.

Later this year we hope to once again be working with the charity, supporting their other annual fundraiser, held at the Royal Geographical Society. A fitting scenario given that one of our gin stills is named after Isabella Lucy Bird, the first woman to be inducted into the Society in 1897.
