PD Balsam Bash

Help us make gin!

Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust are holding 2 balsam bashes on 3 and 24 July at Tewinbury and Rye Meads respectively. Ben and I will be there as it’s the Himalayan balsam flower that we need to make our ‘pink for a purpose’ Campfire Special Edition No 1 Gin. £2 from every bottle sold goes to the Trust. So more flowers = more gin = more money to the Trust.

Clearing the non-native, invasive balsam is pretty easy as the roots are quite shallow. The pulled plants are left in situ to die before they set seed but first we remove the flowers for the gin.

By removing the Himalayan balsam the bees have a chance at pollinating our native plants and the banks of the rare Hertfordshire chalk rivers are not eroded.

We hope you can join us. For more info on timings please contact us.
