Campfire Old Tom Gin
£11.00 – £216.00
In considering how an 18th century rural distiller might approach the creation of an ‘Old Tom’ style, we’ve married a unique botanical selection with pot distillation and compounding. This award winning gin delivers fragrant notes of chamomile, juniper, spice and citrus with a hint of colour and sweetness, without the use of sugar. 45% ABV

Craft Distillers Old Tom Gin of the Year 2019
“Waxy citrus aromas combing with juniper and warming spice flavours.” Judges comments, IWSC 2022
“Bold and slightly sweet, without being sugary; obviously still a gin – and a pretty awesome one at that.” David T Smith, gin expert, judge and author
“The intrinsic sweetness here works well – this is not in any way an over-sweet gin. This is a gin that lends itself to cocktails rather than sipping and works well with a G&T, providing a bright, characterful and firm base, without excessive sweetness, even with a fair measure of tonic.” Judges comments, Great Taste 2021

Old Tom styles occupy a place on the gin timeline between Dutch Genever and London Dry styles. They typically had higher botanical levels to mask less than pure base alcohol. In some cases, unscrupulous distillers would cut this base alcohol with turpentine, sulphuric acid and all manner of other nasties to make the ‘gin’ go a little further. Angelica root, citrus and spices that were available in 18th/19th century all came into play. Importantly these styles of gin were often sweetened with the introduction of liquorice, or, when more affordable, sugar, all to make the gin a little more palatable (and sweeter).
Launched in 2019 our take on this historic style considers what an 18th/19th century rural distiller might include in the botanical line up. To this extent, in Campfire Old Tom Gin, we have used malted barley to achieve sweetness and spiced things up with cinnamon and cardamon. These sit alongside juniper, British coriander, chamomile, angelica root, cardamon and fresh lemon peel. Campfire Old Tom Gin uses distilled and compounded processes and has a hint of colour – a spicier character than our Campfire London Dry Gin.
Recommended serves
Makes a superb Old Bold Negroni with Carpano Antica Formula Rosso Vermouth and Campari. Pair with Fever-Tree Indian Tonic or Sicilian Lemon Tonic for a refreshing G&T. Drop in a slice of lime for garnish to add a warm note of citrus. For those of you who love lime cocktail flavours try an Old Tom Sawyer – it’s amazing.

A really tasty gin that’s great in both a cheeky weekend Martini as well as a g&t.
