Box Moor Gin Top 10 Gin 2023

TOP 10 GIN 2023

Box Moor Gin bestowed with high accolade

Gin judges and gin bloggers are constantly tasting and comparing gins (new and old gin releases) and we’re thrilled that our Box Moor Gin has been included in the list of Top 10 Gins of 2023 as compiled by gin judge, consultant, blogger and gin writer Gin A Ding Ding (Sarah Miller).

Rare English juniper

On a personal level we’re really proud that it was one of our special edition gins for wildlife and conservation that has achieved this recognition. The juniper used in this gin was harvested by distillery founders, Ben and Kate Marston, from The Box Moor Trust estate in Hemel Hempstead, Herts, just 13 miles from our gin distillery in Tring. The Box Moor Trust is one of the oldest conservation charities and they manage nearly 500 acres of grazing and amenity land on the outskirts of Hemel Hempstead and Bovingdon on behalf of the local community.

Box Moor Gin tasting notes

Described as ‘really exceptional’ by Sarah Miller, Box Moor Gin is distilled to a classic London Dry style with British coriander seed, British angelica root, orris root powder and fresh lime. We use the peel of the limes as a nod to Boxmoor Wharf – once the home of Rose’s Lime Juice.

As with grape varieties, the terroir of a region has huge impact on the juniper, in this instance offering a profile that exhibits pine but with enhanced juicy plum and herbaceous notes.

Box Moor Gin Cookies & Cream cocktail

Recommended serves for Box Moor Gin

Go easy on the tonic and let the Hertfordshire juniper shine in a classic Gin & Tonic. Our preferred ratio is 50ml Box Moor Gin to 100ml tonic. Just a slice of lime keeps the flavours clean and fresh.

If you like to make cocktails try a Gin & Orange Sour or Gimlet. The bottle label is based on Belted Galloway cows which are a common sight on The Box Moor Trust land. These beautiful cows with a white band round their middle are sometimes referred to as Oreo cows so we invite you to try our Cookies & Cream cocktail with Oreo cookie crumb. Check out our origami versions of the Belted Galloway cows below!
